A 4.8 degree tremor shakes Dominican eastern region
Near Saona Island
BREAKING NEWS: A tremor of 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale shook the Dominican east region at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, with no immediate reports of injuries or damages.
The quake’s epicenter was located 48 kilometers South-south-east of Higüey and 49 kilometers east-south-east of La Romana, near Saona Island.
The United States Geodetic Survey registered the quake’s epicenter at 157 kilometers in depth, latitude 18.21 degrees North, and longitude 68,56 degrees West.

Inauguration of « Los Altos de Casa de Campo »

BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA. - Los Altos de Casa de Campo tourist complex, built by private company managers with an investment of 113 million dollars, was inaugurated at the time of a ceremony to which the Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, and other personalities attended.
The ceremony took place at the Hole Nº 18 of the Dye Fore Golf Course of Casa de Campo.
The project, developed by BAP Development Company offers three options for villas, plots and apartments.
Willy A. Bermello, president of BAP Development, made the central speech during which he explained that the structure of construction combined the extent of spaces with large terraces, beautiful gardens and never ending view on the golf course.
He said that the design and the construction of the infrastructure was realized by engineers Guillermo Strofer and Francisco Feaugas.
He recalled that BAP Development was the promoter and developer company of the famous international Bermejo Ajamil and Partners firm, one of the largest companies of architecture and of engineering of Florida, having realized millionaires’ real estate projects in the United States, the Middle-East and in the Caribbean.
It was founded in 1999 by Willy A. Bermello and Luis Ajamil to answer the request of high-quality housing projects and condominiums in the South of Florida.

Joan Rodriguez wins the first place of the division A
Of the III Regatta Casa de Campo Copa Presidente 2009
With the participation of 17 boats of the Dominican fleet, the Casa de Campo Regata 2009, III Copa Presidente ended in the Marina of Casa de Campo.
The event was organized in three divisions: The division A which goal was the President Cup
, the division B which goal was the Spinnaker/ Gennaker
trophy, and the division C which goal was the Non-Spinnaker/Non Gennaker trophy
.
The winner of the division A is the sailboat Let’s Ride
, commanded by its captain Joan Rodríguez, whereas the Celtic X
sailboat, with José Ml onboard, arrived to the second place. In third position, it’s the team Alante
headed by Igor Bordas.
For the division B, it’s the sailboat J-24
of Eduardo Verdeja that reached the first place, followed by the Jerliza
boat of Tamy Flaquer, and by the Orión
of Sven Holmbom.
Finally, in the division C, the first position was won by Héctor Duval with its sailboat named Shiraz
; the sailboat of Ramón Prieto, Cecile
, arrived in second place, whereas the Lone Star
of Frank Langeard reached the third position of the final ranking.
The prize giving took place at the Portofino Plaza of the Casa de Campo Marina.

Environment and Water celebrate their world days
Forestation
BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA. - The provincial direction of the Environment and the Natural Resources celebrated with days of forestation the world day of the Environment and the Water day.
The governor of La Romana, Pedro Dennis del Rosario, the SEMARENA and young students planted mahogany trees in the Mercedes Laura Aguiar school; then the celebration extended to students from the Cristo Rey and Paulina Jiménez schools, which after having sang the anthem of the forestation, planted mahogany and coconut trees in the court of the provincial government.
The representative of the executive power expressed the importance of the fact that the citizens decide to plant a tree, an effective manner to fight against the effects of the global warming of the planet.
In the same way, the provincial director of the Department of Environment and Natural resource, Andy Ornar Johnson, announced the decision of president Leonel Fernández, to increase the forest cover of the Dominican Republic through the Quisqueya Verde National Plan, and that the Minister of the portfolio, Jaime David Fernández Mirabal, ordered the plantation of 5 million of indigenous and endemic trees in the East area of the country.
While continuing with the celebrations of March 21, Forest world day and of March 22, world day of Water, the provincial direction of the Environment and the Association of the Hotels La Romana-Bayahibe, planted trees on Padre Nuestro, site which shelters the water wells which provides the precious liquid to the hotels of the zone.
This activity joined together employees of the hotel complexes, executives and foreign hosts, who with enthusiasm sown species like cedar, mahogany, coconut and the golden penda trees.

Inauguration of the aqueduct
BREAKING NEWS: President Leonel Fernández will travel today in the East Region of the country to take part in two official celebrations.
He will go first in the province of La Romana to inaugurate the multiple aqueduct of this community, located in the Villa San Carlos sector.
This ceremony is planned at 11:00 a.m.Then at 01:00 p.m.the agent will go to kilometer 17 of the Las Américas higway to give the first symbolic pickax blow to the entertaining club of the National Police force.
The aqueduct will benefit a population from approximately 500 thousand inhabitants.
It will be supply with the water of the Chavón river and will have a treatment plant.
