BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA - At least two thousand 600 tourists arrived on board of the Grand Princess cruise liner at the tourist pier of Casa de Campo in La Romana.

The foreign visitors were received by Andrés Fernández, director of the tour operators of the pier terminal of La Romana.

It is very positive to receive the Princess Cruises chain and we guarantee an unforgettable stay to the crew and the passengers, by discovering our beaches and other tourist attractions, indicated Fernández.

On his side, the captain of the cruise liner, Nicholas Carlton, spoke in praise of the adequate conditions of the pier to receive a cruiser of 09 thousand tons and 950 feet, as well as of the attention and of the generosity of the Dominicans.

The Grand Princess has particular characteristics as the Cinema under Stars where films are projected on giant screens; three swimming pools, a suspended discotheque, 15 tennis, basketball and volley ball courts and a floating casino, one of the largest of the world.

The tourist pier of Casa de Campo of La Romana, which belongs to the Central Romana Corporation group, receives each week various companies of cruising ships, among them the Costa Atlántica et the Costa Fortuna, the Carnival Splendor, the Bleu de France, the Aida Vita and the Aida Aura, and the Thomson Destiny.

Some routes allow that the port can receive two ships at the same time, while operating simultaneously on two parallel quays.

BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA. - « Patronato Benéfico Oriental » will hold its twelfth Week-end of Child House with its traditional tournaments of golf, tennis and polo opened to the families, in the Casa de Campo resort.

The purpose of the event is to gather funds for the various social projects which « Patronato Benéfico Oriental » develops.

The great night of sporting tournaments prizes handing-over will take place on Saturday February 14, in the La Romana Country Club with the participation of the orchestra of Francis Santana and of the Dos en la Vía band.

Moreover, a delicious dinner prepared exclusively by the chiefs of Casa de Campo will be served.

Xiomara Menéndez, president of the Child House, expressed her satisfaction as for the achievements carried out throughout the years.

We have been very grateful to be able to celebrate for twelve years an event which enables us to develop projects of health and education for the benefit of thousands of children and teenagers having few financial resources, she expressed.

She also underlined the constant support of the companies which collaborated closely with « Patronato Benéfico Oriental » like the Central Romana Corporation.

The « Patronato Benéfico Oriental » organization was founded in 1976 and since then develops various aid programs for poor children of La Romana and other close communities.

The House of Child receives daily more than 1.500 children, since new born till 18 year-old teenagers.

The organization provides an education to 75 dumb deaf students, has a professional school with 235 students and proposes programs of oral health and of assignment of grants.

BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA. -The ministry of public works, Víctor Díaz Rúa, met the Bishop of the Higuey diocese, Your Eminence Nicanor Peña and others authorities of this municipality.

During this meeting, they talked about the necessities of the province of La Altagracia and agreed concerning the beginning of the roads construction of this locality.

Díaz Rúa said that the construction of the La Romana- Higuey road will start soon.

The roads included in the repairing program are: the Juan XXIII, José Audilio, Avenida Altagracia, Libertad, Enrique Rijo, José Ramón Payán, 14 de Junio, avenida Libertad, Enrique Rijo since the school of Mamá Tingo until the Mella road; the avenue San Pedro, Hermanas Mirabal, Urania Montás and the streets Guineo until Laguna Llana.

Besides the re-asphalting of the road Romana-Higuey, the roads of the extension Gastón Fernando Deligne until the bridge of Villa Cerro, the extension of the Gastón Deligne, the streets Juan Rosario, Cruce de Villa Palmera and La Pangola, the Germán Aponte until San Pedro and until the street N-13, were reconstructed too.

The plan includes the avenues Cedeño since La Manicera until La Anacaona and the streets Cayacoa, Teo Cruz, Paseo de los Locutores and the Marcial Guerrero area.

The meeting took place in the office of the Minister of the Public Works and the participants were :Your Eminence Nicanor Peña, who directed the committee; Amable Aristy, Secretary of the Municipal Dominican Ligue; Esteban Castillo, president of the Federación de Juntas de Vecinos; Karina Aristy, Mayor of Higuey; the Governor of the Province, Luis Rafael Cedeño and Manolo Ramírez, General Secretary of the Confederación Autónoma Sindical Clasista.

BREAKING NEWS: LA ROMANA.- The cleaning of the Caleta beach is part of the future plans, confirmed Roberto Jiménez, assistant of the General Director of the Tourism Ministry (SECTUR).

The official ensured that the request for the works was submitted to INFRATUR, organism that will take the decision to enable the resident of La Romana and villages to have an access to a beautiful and large beach.
