BREAKING NEWS: La Romana.- Hundreds of people were met together in front of the City of La Romana, to witness the illumination of the Christmas tree of the province, which officially opened the festivities of New Year.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the municipal choir, and then continued with a band. The priest Jorge Reyes blessed the Christmas tree, and gave the microphone to Mayor José Reyes, who thanked those present for having responded to his invitation.

Municipal officials and the governor of the province Martires Castro, Chief of local Police Vittini Duran and deputy Teodoro Ursino Reyes attended the event.

BREAKING NEWS: La Romana.- The operator TUI Cruises has announced it would move its base in the Dominican Republic from Santo Domingo to La Romana, so this port will become the depart point of the cruiser that performs the Mein Schiff, a ship that will expand its itineraries in 2010 and 2011.

The reason for the change is that TUI has held that the port of La Romana will be more convenient for the embarcation of cruise passengers. According to CEO of TUI Cruises, Richard J. Vogel, during the first tour, released this winter, found that conditions were not as good as they could be in Santo Domingo to the change of boat passengers.
Therefore, to ensure that the change is smooth, we decided to do this with immediate effect in the port of La Romana .

The boat has been sailing between May and October 2009 by the Baltic Sea, departing from the ports of Hamburg and Kiel, Germany, and also reaching Palma de Mallorca.
