The Casa de Campo complex transformed

Identified as one of the best destinations of the Caribbean, the touristic complex Casa de Campo acquired an international reputation thanks to its luxury villas, its golf courses conceived by Pete Dye and the quality of its services, but not necessarily for the beauty of its beaches.

Almost 1 million dollars and a month of hard work were necessary to transform the image of the Casa de Campo beach, now sheltered in the white purity, that brings freshness and harmony, and it is clear now that some plants were eliminated.

The mission was in the hands of the interior decorator Mayra González, who, without the help of any plan, created a refined ambiance that does not forget the real star of the place: the sea.

The elegant, welcomimg and modern design completes the nature work and creates an extremely attractive visual aspect, that invites to relax, explains González.

The little kiosks in the beach area, tables around the Coco Mar bar to offer pizzas and BBQ, three kiosks with cana roofs near to the restaurant are some of the best novelties introduces by Mayra González.

The Romana pays homage to Bienvenido Solano

Declared as the Praiseworthy Son of La Romana

In an emotive ceremony, with the presence of the authorities and sportsmen of this city, the Town Hall of La Romana, dictated a resolution declaring as Praiseworthy Son Bienvenido Solano, President of the Dominican Boxing Federation and of the American Confederation of Boxing.

Solano, who was born in this province, received this award from the mayor José Reyes in a special ceremony.

The Mayor praised the qualities of Solano who, according to him, is the only Dominican sportsman that reached the international glory and that has now two Olympics medals, the most recent is the gold of Félix Díaz in the Olympic Games of Beijing.

This is the second award of the Town Hall under the direction of Reyes, given to Solano; the first one was the Distinguished Son honor.

The welcoming speech was pronounced by the professor Arturo Morales, President of the Sport Union of La Romana and of the Boxing Association, who congratulated Solano for his human qualities and the merits reached by the Dominican Sport.

Bienvenido Solano thanked the community of La Romana, his native land, for this award, thanking God too for allowing him to give his services to the Dominican Sport.

Last tour of Charles Aznavour

José Antonio Rodriguez will sing in French

José Antonio Rodriguez wanted to pay homage to Charles Aznavour with one of his greater successes - which will be sung for the first time in French - on next September 27 in Altos de Chavón.

The translators involved in this adventure are the poet Jochy Mármol and the journalist Jeanne-Marion Landais.

One does not know yet which title will be translated but it could be « Como un Bolero »; precisely for the style of the song and its less complex structure for the translation in French language.

It appears that José Antonio is driving through all the city accompanied by a CD collection of Aznavour and other interpreters singing in French, to pick the accent.

Jose Antonio will be the guest artist to the farewell concert of Charles Aznavour who is 85 year-old and on tour in Latin America, which started in Brazil with 10 representations.

Author of more than 700 songs, interpreted in six languages (French, English, Spanish, Italian, Russian and German), presented in more than 90 countries, Aznavour is recognized like the great myth of the French song.

The concert will be perfomed for the benefit of the Foundation « Nido para Ángeles » whose objective is to improve quality of life of the children diagnosed with an infantile cerebral paralysis.

The downpours stop the traffic La Romana-Higüey

Evacuations and isolated communities

LA ROMANA.- The strong rains which fell down over the East zone of the country caused the interruption of the traffic on the section La Romana-Higüey and evacuations took place because of floods, whereas the National Office of Meteorology (ONAMET) informs that the rains accompanied by storms and wind gusts will continue, caused by a tropical disturbance located on the North-eastern and South-eastern part of the country.

The section La Romana-Higüey underwent many interruptions, including one located near to the airport where an immense puddle pool was formed only allowing the passage of the heavy vehicles.

On the bridge of Bella Vista, another interruption occurred because of a river emerging in the río Salado.

The director of the Civil Defense, Luis Luna Paulino, said that evacuations occured in the Panchito district in Samaná, in the districts Playa, Boba and Matancita in Nagua as well as in El Cacao, San Cristobal, San José de Ocoa and Azua.

He announced that in San Pedro de Macoris, the evacuations took place in the community of Ramón Santana, Paso Al Medio, Batey Santa Fe, Barrio Carrión.

In El Seibo, the people living in the rivers banks were also evacuated.

In La Romana, fifteen people of the district Río Salado have been rescued.

Luna Paulino informed that the Emergencies Operations Center was prepared to face any weather conditions which could happen.

The floods strike the provinces of the Eastern area

At least 300 families sheltered, flooded districts

The largest damage left Tuesday by the passage of the tropical disturbance in the Eastern area was recorded in the provinces of San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana and La Altagracia, where yesterday afternoon, a lot of districts were flooded by water of the rivers which ran freely through the streets.

Although the rains decreased at the first hours of the morning and that some little sun rays appeared, the center of La Romana was surprised by a strong water flow which penetrated in the J.R. Paulino street and which in a few minutes flooded the sector, the park and the close streets, by producing disturbances in the road traffic and in the commercial activities in general.

In this province, furious water of the small valley La Cacata penetrated in the Buena Vista district, where they affected some houses, snatched asphalt of the main road and torn off approximately 10 kilometers of rails of the Central Romana.

The rising of the Soco river maintains under water several breeding properties and cultures, as well as the Villa Progreso, 24 de Abril, Villa Municipal, Pedro Justo Carrión, Primavera, Villa Alemana, Inocencia districts and the batey Santa Fe.

In spite of this panorama of desolation, the inhabitants of the sectors refuse to give up their houses and from three days they live in « Venice » in mud and waste, while waiting for the authorities to transport them in a safe place.

These families, without shoes with water until the thighs, move from one side to another to carry out their daily tasks, while fighting against the current.

Central Romana will pay more than 1 billion pesos

The highest amount ever paid

The Central Romana Corporation informed yesterday that more that 1 billion pesos will be distributed as a payment for the collected sugar cane during the last sugar harvest.

The corporation informed that it was the highest amount ever paid.

In the month of July, the Central Romana had delivered 415 million in bonus to its employees and workmen, what constituted a record amount too.

The enterprise indicated in a release that this year, 3,427,424 tons of sugar cane were grinded, for a total production of 410,891 tons of sugar, and produced 20.5 millions of honey galons.

The factory, that started its works in 1912, produced, during the last harvest, 175,000 tons of refined sugar, giving a guarantee of a secure and continuous distibution of a such importent product in the family shopping basket in the country.

The Central Romana is a agro-industrial coorporation which operations extend on almost all the East of the country, and that possedes the Casa de Campo resort, the Chavón Marina, Costasur Dominiacana and the International Touristic Airport and Port of La Romana.

Nowadays, the coorporation is building an hotel managed by the Four Season network and is about to built another one in the Bayahibe area.

The enterprise employs more than 20.000 persons.
